HAWAII TRAVELGUIDE PART 2 | BIG ISLAND HAWAI’I

HAWAII TRAVELGUIDE PART 2 | BIG ISLAND HAWAI’I

[A]loha, and welcome to the Big Island of Hawai’i. While staying in Maui I did a day trip to the Big Island. So on a Monday I took a flight at 9 am from Maui to the Big Island with Hawaiian Airlines. It was a very short flight, maybe like a half hour? A tip: If you’re flying with Hawaiian Airlines, I recommend to try the Guava Juice, so yummy!! When I arrived on the Big Island, I went straight to the Helicopter Tour Checkin at Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. One important thing to know, you are not allowed to wear light clothing as it will reflect in the windows and it will ruin your pictures, so dress in something dark. Being totally serious, they will make you change your clothes! The helicopter flight was simply amazing! The pilot flew around the island, but it was mainly focused on the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We flew over the volcano Kilauea and I got super lucky, because it was actually splashing lava. Little did the pilot and I know that it actually was the pre eruption phase since Kilauea erupted last week (May 3rd at 4.30pm Hawaiian Time). After the helicopter tour I was able to purchase a DVD with footage from the flight that I was on. It was a $25 charge, and absolutely worth getting, in my opinion, because now I can rewatch it and relive it.

Right after the Helicopter Tour, the tour guide from Discover Hawaii Tour. com was waiting for me to pick me up at the airport. It was a tour around the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and we stopped in different locations. We stopped at different dried lava locations from different volcano eruptions, I walked through a lava tube that has been dry for decades, It was just amazing!

If you have time and the budget I can definitely recommend doing a day trip to the Big Island to visit the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Absolutely worth the experience. You might as well, if you’re already in Hawaii 🙂 Mahalo, Joëlle
