When it comes to my Fall wardrobe I tend to go a little overboard, since Fall is my absolute favorite season. If you’re following me on Instagram I’m sure you’ve noticed. 🙂

Since the weather has been a little cray cray temperature wise, it’s always a good idea to dress in layers. Honestly I feel like an onion in Fall and Winter, putting one layer over another. But hey, just trying to stay warm. I’m wearing a white shirt dress from ASOS and to stay a little warmer I added an oversized comfy sweater in a rose beige color from H&M. Overknee boots are an absolute must for me in Fall and Winter, they are THE statement piece during the colder months. To make this look a little more Winter appropriate, simply add a camel coat 🙂

Can you believe Thanksgiving is already this week? I know me too! But that also means Black Friday is suuuper close, the biggest sales event of the year! Because of my busy and hectic schedule, I prefer ordering everything online, and most stores have Black Friday deals going on all week. And let’s not forget about Cyber Monday 😉

I just finished my second round of midterms last week, and now the semester is running towards the finish line. I have to say, I’m having mixed feelings about Fall almost being over, but I am super excited about the holiday season since I’ll be going home (Hamburg, Germany) for Christmas. As the temperatures are slowly falling, summer is finally coming to an end. My absolute favorite season is just around the corner: Fall!

This shirt dress is a great transition from Summer to Fall look, because the oversized cotton shirt is very light and for a little colder days I love layering a big knit sweater over it (look will come soon). To avoid little mishaps, I’m actually wearing airy shorts under the shirt dress. And can we please take a moment and talk about these amazing thigh high lace up boots! I absolutely have an obsession when it comes to over-knee boots (I literally have so many pairs), so when I saw this pair I had to order them. I’ve actually never worn these boots before (until this year), because they were miles out of my comfort zone. But now I don’t even want to take them off anymore. So unfortunately I got these boots maybe like 3 years ago on ASOS, and I could not find a similar pair to link for you guys. Instead I linked a few different shoe options to recreate the look for you 🙂

Hello my dear ones, as a huge bargain hunter I am always looking for the best sales. Currently there are SO many good sales going on and I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces with you! Beach days are always fun, especially when the weather cooperates. With this heat wave upon us, we need to be extra careful and protect our skin from the sun.

Like I have mentioned to you before, I am always on the hunt for the best sun lotion. I do like summer, but I hate the sun lotion aspect of summer. Since my skin is so fair and I burn very easily, I always need to make sure I am 100% protected from the sun. Everyone, even if your skin isn’t as fair as mine, should wear sun lotion because the UV rays can cause cancer. I hate it when the sun lotion is super sticky or the lotion makes me look white as a ghost. With that being said, I’m always experimenting with different brands of sun lotion, because I have yet to find the perfect one that I’m 100% happy with. Obviously there is no such thing as 100% , but I’m looking for a sun lotion that checks most of my points off my checklist.

This time around I decided to give Sun Bum a try. Sun Bum is paraben free, oxybenzone free, hypoallergenic, cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, and is safe for the coral reefs, just to name a few benefits of this sun lotion. The lotion absorbs into the skin fairly quickly and it feels more like a regular lotion than a sticky sun lotion, which I love. Additionally it doesn’t make me look more pasty than I already am 😀 I also love that the sun lotion smells so good, and the sun lip balm comes in different flavors. I tried the Coconut one, it tasted like Pina Colada, so good! The most important part is, I reapplied the sun lotion every 2 hours, and I did not get burned 🙂

About the look – I am absolutely in love with this linen dress and the straw bag. These two are definitely my staples for this summer. I recently posted a straw bags shopping inspo guide (here) and linked some great affordable options all under $130. I got this straw bag at Target for only $34.99 which is an amazing find for these bags! They are a great companion to bring to the beach/the pool or to a BBQ.

When I first saw this Michael Kors (here) bag in the store in the beginning of April I absolutely fell in love with it. I didn’t buy it back then, because I always need a little bit of time to think (or overthink) when buying an investment piece. I love all the small floral details and especially the rose gold, this bag literally screams my name. But I’m so glad I waited, because I actually got it as a Birthday present and couldn’t be more thankful! I am sooo in love with this bag, so thank you so much again!

Culottes are definitely a must have for me this Summer. Especially these blush pink culottes are so perfect for Summer, I could literally wear them all the time (I actually might 😀 ). The material is so light and airy, so you don’t get too hot when wearing them. When I buy clothes I literally always (or at least most of the time) make sure the pieces are versatile. You are able to wear them more casual like I am here (and here), or you can add a pair of heels, and wear a work appropriate blouse/top and a blazer et voîla you’re good to go for work! Summers in New York and New Jersey get SO HOT, which sometimes makes it so hard to dress appropriately for work without dying of a heat shock (exaggerating but also not). But these pants will literally save your life! For some reason I have not been able to find these exact H&M blush culottes online, but when I go to the store they are still available in some stores. It drives me nuts honestly, because I really want to share them with you! Well, so if you happen to go to an H&M store, check them out. They are so airy and the material is so light, they are literally perfect for the Summer.

Also I have been really obsessed with linen texture clothing pieces lately, they are so trendy at the moment. I remember when I was in High School I used to wear linen pants all the time in the Summer, because my skin is so fair and that way my skin was protected from the sun rays. I love that the linen look is back now, I have quite a few things hanging in my closet and cannot wait to share them with you 🙂  Bisous, Joëlle

Oh belt bags aka fanny packs. Oh how much I used to hate them. I remember when I was little, I always had to bring a fanny pack with me for day trips at school etc, because they are so convenient, and you’re less likely to loose things. But as a little girl I just hated them! Anyway, now that they’re trendy again, I’ve decided to give them a second chance. I have to admit, it took me some time to try them out again, but now I actually find them pretty cool and really practical. Usually I like a little bigger bags, because I always carry literally everything with me (sometimes it gets a little crowded in my purses), and I literally mean everything. You need a band aid, I got you covered. You need a tissue, no problem. Gum? Sure! So as much as I love these belt bags now, I prefer bigger bags. But I’ll definitely choose a fanny pack over a big bag, when going to the city, or going on a day trip, because carrying a big heavy bag all day long is NO fun!

Also, let’s talk about this cute shirt dress. They are super trendy this summer! These shirt dresses are so versatile: you can wear them like a dress (I wear shorts under them, just to avoid flashing anybody 😀 ), you can wear them as a casual beach cover up, or you can wear them with a pair of destroyed jeans, or a pair of regular skinny jeans. Like I said, a million different ways to wear this shirtdress, that’s why I love it so much!

Gladiator Overknee Boots: I’ve always had a weakness for overknee boots, and also gladiator sandals. When I found these lace-up overknee boots online at ASOS a few years ago, I absolutely fell in love with them. I haven’t worn them very much, because I always felt a little shy wearing them, because I mean look at them! But I absolutely love them so much and can’t wait to wear them more often from now on. It does get a little hot wearing these, so I probably won’t wear them too much in the summer. I’ve also linked a few more sandal like shoes rather than boots for you guys 🙂

Happy first day of summer! Summer is officially here and that means your summer vacation is calling, or you’re planning to go to the beach and/or pool. [A]loha. Thinking about travelling to Hawaii, and looking for some inspiration and tips? I’ve always wanted to travel to Maui since I’ve been a teenager and my dream finally came true! I am super excited to get to share my experiences with you about Hawaii in the next few posts! This is part one of my Hawaii Travel Guide and in this post I’m sharing my experience about Maui. And just to warn you, it has some text and quite a few pictures 🙂 Since I was wayy excited to be there, I took soo many pictures and want to share soo much with you about my trip, so I split my Hawaii Travel Guide into three parts, one per Island I visited. So a separate post about my time on the Big Island of Hawai’i, and on Oahu is following soon, in which I will share my experience about the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Disney Aulani, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor and much more. Welcome to Hawaii

I live in New Jersey, so I took a flight with United Airlines to San Francisco with a short layover and then took the connecting flight to Maui, Hawaii. The flight was pretty good, they had snacks and food available for purchase and internet was available also (great bonus if you have work to do). Without complications, and about 11 hours on a plane later, I arrived at the airport in Maui. From there I took about a half hour cab ride to the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort.

Where to stay?

During my stay on Maui, I stayed at the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort which is in Wailea. The hotel is located right at the beach, and retail and convenient stores are not too far from the resort either. Additionally, the resort has a few stores also for souvenirs etc. The Grand Wailea is part of the Hilton Honors program, so if you’re a Hilton Honors member, bonus points for you! The hotel rooms at the resort come at different price points, depending on balcony or ocean view etc. Everyone at the hotel is so friendly and welcoming, and when you arrive at the hotel you either receive an Orchid Leis or Kukui Nut Lei, they are so pretty. It’s an absolutely amazing hotel, I will let the pictures do the talking 🙂

I did some more research on a few other hotels for you guys, and one of the hotels that I found is the Residence Inn by Marriott Maui Wailea. It got some pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor and has some good rates! This hotel is actually also located in Wailea, and is very close to the Grand Wailea. Another hotel I found is the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa which is located in Lahaina, Maui. It also got some pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor and might be the most economical option from the three hotels. I really like resorts, because I like to go to the pool as well as to the beach. 🙂

Beaches

The Wailea Beach by the Grand Wailea is absolutely gorgeous, the sand is so soft and there are no rocks or algae to climb over to be able to walk into the ocean. The beach is absolutely a dream!

I did not go beach hopping this time, but beach hopping is definitely on my list for when I travel back to Maui. Kapalua Beach is definitely on my list. The white sand beach is located in Lahaina, which is on the north west side of Maui, and is sheltered by two reefs which makes it ideal for snorkeling. Another beach that I’d like to visit next time is Makena Beach. Besides the Wailea Beach, this beach is considered to be one of the best beaches on Maui and is the largest one. The beach is actually not too far from the Grand Wailea Resort.

Luao

The resort offers a variety of activities and also has a gym, spa, kids club (if you’re travelling with little ones), and they also have a Luao a couple evenings a week. And let me tell you, if you’re in Hawaii you will want to experience a Luao. I had such a great time at the Luao! The performances were amazing, and the food was great. It was a nice way of getting to know the Hawaiian culture a little bit more. And a tip, make sure you make reservations in advance, especially if you want to have good seats! The reservations fill up quickly.

Food

On my first night at the Grand Wailea I went to a local restaurant in Wailea called Monkeypod . The restaurant only uses products from Hawai’i and works closely together with farmers, brewers and artisans. The food is seriously so amazing, and the people are very friendly and welcoming also!

If you’re staying at the Grand Wailea, make sure to check out the restaurant Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, or short Humu Humu , which was named after Hawaii’s state fish. They have dinner available from 5.30pm (reservation required), and Sunday Brunch at 10.30am. The cuisine is Hawaiian and Polynesian style, the food is absolutely amazing!! And if you have a sweet tooth like me and like coconut, try the coconut macaroon. So delicious! Unfortunately I have a shellfish allergy (about 8 years now), so I couldn’t try any of that but it all looked sooo good!

Haleakala Sunrise

During my time on Maui, I went to the Volcano Haleakala to watch the sunrise. Watching the sunrise is absolutely breath taking, I took a video of the sunrise and a bunch of pictures! I left the hotel around 3am (with a rental car), since the drive is about an hour and a half (there are tours available here). I got there around 5.30am and then needed to get situated with my camera. Plus there are a lot of people, and as a matter of fact you need to make a reservation (here), because it gets so crowded. Otherwise the park ranger won’t let you go through. 😉 And another tip, it is freeeezing up there! It was 34 Fahrenheit, so it was around 1 degree Celsius, so make sure you dress warm! I actually brought a blanket from the hotel with me additionally and wrapped myself in it, it was so cold! And when leaving the tip of the volcano, down by the mainland it was 90 Fahrenheit (32 Celsius).

After the sunrise, on the way back to the resort I stopped for breakfast at the Kula Lodge (it’s a hotel and restaurant) and it was absolutely delicious. If you’re planning on getting French Toast or Pancakes, definitely try their Coconut Syrup, YUM! They also have a really pretty garden where you can find some liguanas, geckos and beautiful flowers. Very close to the Kula lodge is a nice souvenir shop too 🙂

I had such an amazing time in Maui and cannot wait to plan a trip back there. I already have a few items on my list to try next time I’m there: swim with the dolphins, helicopter flight around the island, day trip to waterfalls and swim under the waterfalls, snorkeling, swimming with turtles, try out more local restaurants and I’m sure my list will expand over time.

I think this might be one of my absolute favorite Sex and the City quotes ever! No matter how tough situations can get at times, never ever give up. Always keep fighting for yourself, no matter what it is! Consistency is key in every aspect of your life.

I truly felt like Carrie Bradshaw shooting this look, and walking through the city in this gorgeous pastel purple tulle skirt. It was so much fun! It was surprisingly warm in the sun, so let’s ignore the people in their winter coats! The wind was a little bit chilly, but it was at least 60 Fahrenheit, so about 15 degrees. Please come faster Spring! I think my love for tulle skirts comes from watching Sex and the City a little bit too much. 😀
